Louisiana irises are beardless perennials native to the United States, grouped botanically under the series Hexagonae. They display wide-open, flamboyant blossoms and have a natural ability to hybridize into an extensive range of colors with brightly colored style-arms and sharp signal-crests.

Louisiana irises thrive across South Africa in moist, boggy conditions or well-watered garden beds.
